Creating an inventory of the connections you have will spark ideas

Asset mapping is a versatile creative placemaking tool that deepens local connections and understanding of communities. It can be used to advocate for policy changes, shift perspectives with counternarratives about a community, and bring visibility to existing and potential relationships to bolster support.

USEFUL TIP

Two Key Points

First, identify your goals for asset-mapping. Then, build a community-centered and participatory approach so that people from the community are defining the assets.

Once you’ve identified your goals, you can begin identifying strengths and assets. Although mapping sounds complicated, it can be as simple as creating a list, or sharing stories.

Assets to identify:
• Tangible Assets
• People
• Recurring Events
• History and Traditions
• Public Services
